Recent statements by US officials about the need for direct dialogue between Iran and the US have brought the issue to the forefront of political news again. The key question is why, despite all of America’s experience of broken promises and hostility, do they still insist on repeating this failed path?
In reality, one of the most important reasons why the Islamic Republic of Iran refuses to renegotiate with the United States is experience. It is a bitter repeating experience that every time we come to the negotiating table with the Americans with the intention of opening economic and political relations, it is the American side that ultimately breaks its promises and shows hostility and hostility in exchange for Iran’s goodwill.
The most important example of this experience was the nuclear negotiations with the P5+1 group. This agreement became known as the “JCPOA.” The United States, especially during the Trump administration, not only failed to keep its promise to lift sanctions, but also unilaterally withdrew from the agreement, stalling the path to implementing the JCPOA. At the same time, Washington prevented Europe from fulfilling its commitments through pressure and intimidation. In other words, the United States also deprived Europeans of the slightest possibility of financial and banking ties with Iran, in a situation where Europeans had no independent will. This process of breach of promise did not end with the JCPOA.
In recent months, the same pattern of deception and broken promises has been repeated in indirect negotiations with the United States in Oman. The negotiations were held over five rounds and were about to enter the sixth round. Just before this round of negotiations, while the atmosphere in the negotiations seemed to be heading towards a positive outcome, the Zionist regime attacked Iranian nuclear facilities with permission from the United States. Twelve days later, when this attack was on the brink of failure, the Americans themselves rushed directly to the rescue of Tel Aviv and invaded Iranian territory. These are all objective and documented experiences of the Iranian people. Experience proving that any faith in America’s promises actually leads to increased pressure, influence, and insecurity. There is currently no logical reason or political legitimacy for Iran to attempt the same costly path again.
