Nepal blocked access to several social media platforms last week, including Facebook.
The government said social media users with fake IDs are spreading hate speech and fake news and committing fraud and other crimes through some platforms.
Authorities imposed curfews around the assembly building after thousands of protesters attempted to enter Congress by breaking police barricades.
“We imposed a curfew that would be effective until local time (1615 GMT) to control the situation after the protesters began to become violent.
Police were ordered to use water cannons, batons and rubber bullets to control the crowd, Rihull said.
Earlier on Monday, thousands of young people, including students wearing school and university uniforms carrying flags and placards, were stopped by police who built barbed wire barricades from marching towards parliament buildings where demonstrations were not permitted.
When marching through Kathmandu, protesters carried placards carrying slogans such as “closing corruption rather than social media, closing corruption rather than social media.”
