According to Israeli national news website, Netanyahu, escorted by his wife Sarah, has begun a four-day state visit to the European country.
Details of his schedule in Hungary have not been announced yet, but he is expected to meet with the country’s top officials, Anadolu News Agency reported.
Netanyahu’s visit to Hungary is the first time he has stepped into European soil since the ICC issued an arrest warrant for him last November for alleged war crimes in Gaza.
Human rights groups, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have called on Hungary to arrest Netanyahu if he travels to the country and hands him over to the ICC.
Last November, the ICC issued an arrest warrant to Netanyahu and his former war minister, Joab Gallant, on charges of war crimes and crimes in Gaza.
Israel has been facing a genocide incident at the International Court of Justice regarding military action in Gaza, a Hamas attack by Palestinian Islamic Resistance movement, which has killed more than 50,400 people since October 7, 2023.
