TEHRAN – Authorities discovered and confiscated nine landships dating back to pre-Islamic and early Islamic times in an old neighborhood in Girard, Damavand near Tehran.
Ali Afzari, head of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts at Damavand, announced the attack and said one illegal excavator was arrested during the surgery.
The attacks were carried out in cooperation with the Girabando Police Station and the Conservation Forces of the Department of Cultural Heritage.
Afzari said officers obtained a judicial warrant and carried out a surprising operation that led to the arrest and recovery of historic items.
He added that Damavand, due to its long and valuable historical background, includes many sites, mounds and buildings ranging from prehistoric to Islamic times, highlighting the importance of protecting these cultural assets.
