TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to diplomacy and denounced deliberate media disinformation aimed at undermining talks in a new effort to revive nuclear talks with the United States.
In his X-account post on Thursday, Araguchi opposed media speculations suggesting a breakthrough in negotiations between Iran and the US is imminent. “The media is speculating about the imminent deal with Iran. We don’t know if we’re still there,” he wrote. “Iran is sincere about diplomatic solutions that will serve all aspects, but that requires an agreement to lift sanctions entirely and guarantee Iran’s nuclear rights.
His comments came in response to a Fox News report citing an intelligence report rating that accused Iran of pursuing a nuclear weapons program with potential missile capabilities. However, the report appears to contradict the official status of the US intelligence reporting agency, which was reaffirmed by National Intelligence Director Tarsi Gabbard during the Senate hearing in March, but Iran has not actively developed nuclear weapons.
Araghchi emphasized that progress is achieved through “serious negotiations” rather than “media narratives.” He warned against a disinformation campaign aimed at thwarting diplomacy and directly criticised Israel for manipulating the Iranian issue to target American political enemies. “Using Iran to attack American critics is also low for Israel,” he wrote. “The road to dealing is through the negotiation table, not the headline.”
Iran demonstrated the peaceful nature of its nuclear program to the world by signing a Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA) with six World Powers in 2015.
The groundbreaking deal was derailed by the US in 2018. The US unilaterally stepped out of the agreement and launched a so-called campaign of maximum pressure on Iran.
The US and Iran have been holding five rounds of negotiations under Omani mediation since April 12th, and are expected to re-member the new agreement. One of the core sticking points remains at the level of uranium enrichment that Tehran is allowed under future transactions.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had personally warned against interference in ongoing talks.
