Tehran – Iran will establish a handicraft sales exhibition at railway stations, city entrances and borders across the country during the Nowruz 1404 holiday.
The initiative aims to support artisans and craftsmen by providing opportunities to showcase and sell handmade products to millions of tourists during the peak holiday season.
Mariam Jalali Dakordi, Deputy Minister of Handicrafts, announced plans at the 64th National Travel Services Coordination Headquarters. She emphasized that the crafts will have a strong presence in major travel hubs through the Nowruz celebration.
Reflecting last year’s success, officials noted that over 2 million vacationers were engaged in handicraft workshops at Nowruz 1403. formula. Visitors to religious sites and shrines will have the opportunity to explore locally crafted artwork.
Jalali-Dehkordi also encouraged the National Travel Services Coordination Headquarters to make the most of Iran’s handicrafts industry. She suggested that artisans could enrich red crescent aid stations along the travel route, urban service centres and nomadic settlements. The temporary craft bazaar could be strategically placed to attract pass drivers, she added.
Additionally, Jalali-Dehkordi proposed that artists would set up sales and display booths at the education centre, allowing travelers to experience and purchase authentic Iranian handicrafts while on their trip.
According to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, Iran’s annual handicraft exports currently amount to around $250 million, with an additional $250 million informal “suitcase” exports. However, the global handicraft market is valued at $770 billion, highlighting a major growth opportunity.
Currently, the selection of 13 cities and three villages in Iran is registered as “World City of the World” by the World Crafts Association.
