In a previous Twitter post on X Social Media Platform, senior Iranian diplomat thanked Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albaside for brokering indirect talks between Iran and the US on Saturday. “Thank you to Oman and FM @badralbusaidi for the amazing work that has hosted and mediated these talks.”
“Oman will continue this important effort as Iran and US representatives agreed to continue the on-site consultations next week,” Baghhai added.
Saturday’s exchange was indirect and mediated by Oman, as Iran wanted, not in person, as Trump requested. According to Esmail Baghhai, a spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, each delegation had a separate room and exchanged messages through Omani’s foreign minister.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut said his delegation had a brief encounter with Witkov’s US counterparts after they had finished consultations.
“After the end of more than 2-1/2 hours of indirect consultations, the head of the Iranian and American delegations spoke for a few minutes before the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Oman when they left the consultation. The encounter was based on our political etiquette.”
Araghchi said the consultation took place in a “productive, calm and positive atmosphere.”
“Both sides agreed to continue discussions…perhaps next Saturday,” Araguchi added. “Iran and the US want a deal in the short term. We don’t want to meet for the meeting.”
Commenting on the negotiations, US President Donald Trump said the meeting was fine.
