According to Mehr News Agency, President Masoud Pezeshkian sent a letter to countries around the world on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, underscoring Iran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian state. He said November 29 is a day of global solidarity with those who have stood “empty handed” for decades in their quest for freedom, justice and dignity.
He said the day was a reminder of the Israeli regime’s 80-year occupation of the Palestinian territories and the suffering, injustice and oppression that the Palestinian people continue to endure. Pezeshkian said this year’s commemoration took place at a time when “crimes” against Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip, were unfolding before the eyes of the world, while governments claiming to protect human rights “turned a blind eye.”
The president emphasized that November 29 highlights the struggle of the people who are denied the right to self-determination and are prevented from establishing an independent Palestinian state. He said the day underlines the moral and legal obligation of world governments and states to protect the rights of the Palestinian people.
Pezeshkian also criticized the inability of international organizations to stand up to Israel, saying that Israel is the greatest threat to world peace and security. He said the time has come for governments, together with world opinion, to take serious and effective steps to end aggression against the Palestinian people.
Foreign Minister Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s comprehensive support for the Palestinian cause and its recognition of the Palestinian youth’s legitimate resistance to the occupation, and appealed to the international community to confront Israel’s actions, stating that they violate international law and numerous United Nations resolutions.
He reiterated that Iran believes the only principled solution is to end the systematic occupation of Palestine’s historic lands, ensure the return of Palestinian refugees, and allow them to exercise their right to determine their own future.
The president noted that Iran’s efforts to call for the return of refugees and a referendum on the “indigenous population of Palestine,” which includes Muslims, Christians and Jews, have been formally registered with the United Nations as a viable alternative to previous plans that failed. He said the initiative aims to resolve the Palestinian issue through legal principles based on the right of return and the right to self-determination.
Mr. Pezeshkian concluded by reaffirming his full solidarity with the Palestinian people, praising their “heroic resistance” to Israeli actions, and praying for the victory of the Palestinian people and the liberation of Palestine.
