“There’s nothing to discuss in the name of the nuclear-free issue,” said Qasem Galibabadi, Iran’s vice-chairman and member of the Iranian negotiation team, speaking in an interview with National Television on Wednesday evening.
He said Iran will maintain the right to enrich uranium and its nuclear industry, stressing that these issues are not topics of consultation.
“Nowhere on the IAEA or NPT charters say the country is not allowed to enrich uranium or any proportions.
“Iran is ready to achieve an understanding that is beneficial to both parties and is ready to achieve a fair, fair, reasonable and durable agreement,” he said.
Gallibabadi also said in a clear reference to the 2015 nuclear deal with P5+1, known as the JCPOA, which President Donald Trump pulled out his country in May 2018, the agreement “should not be something that would now be achieved.”
He continued to say that the lasting agreement means that changes in the US government will not bring about changes in the deal in three years.
“Iran is ready to reach such an agreement without delay,” the diplomat emphasized.
He notes at the start of the interview that it will be held in Rome, Iran, but said it is not a problem for Iran that the next round will be held. “The reason I chose Rome was because of demand from the other side.”
Meanwhile, he made it clear that the next round of speech will also be mediated by Oman, like in Muscat’s first round.
The second session of the lecture will be held on Saturday exactly a week later.
