TEHRAN – A total of 127 earthquakes were recorded nationwide from May 23 to 30, according to the seismological network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran Geophysics.
Statistically, there are 106 earthquakes with a size less than 3. A 17 earthquake, between 3 and 4 size. Two earthquakes of 4-5 size. According to the IRNA, two earthquakes occurring in the country, ranging from 5 to 6 sizes.
Of the total, one is 5.1 on the Richter scale, which occurred on May 29th in the state of Carman.
Among the states of the country, the 22-year-old Carman had the highest number of earthquakes, followed by Semnan and Holasan Razabi in 21 and 17 earthquakes.
During the same period, two earthquakes struck Tehran. No earthquakes have been recorded in West Azarbaijan, East Azarbaijan, Aldabil, Alboz, Zanjan, QOM, Kordestan and Gilan provinces.
According to the Earthquake Network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran, a total of 6,272 earthquakes have been recorded nationwide in past calendar years (March 2024 – March 2025).
From the registered earthquakes, 150 were over four on the Richter scale. At least five earthquakes of 4.5 or more have occurred monthly in the country.
The Iranian plateau is located in a highly seismically active region of the world and is known not only for its major catastrophic earthquakes, but also for its natural disasters, particularly earthquake-related disasters.
Iran has about 2% of global earthquakes, but more than 6% of global earthquake casualties in the 20th century have been reported from Iranian earthquakes.
