TEHRAN – A total of 127 earthquakes were recorded nationwide from May 31 to June 6, according to the seismological network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran Geophysics.
Statistically, there are 110 earthquakes with a size less than 3. 15 earthquakes, between 3 and 4 sizes. According to the IRNA, two earthquakes occurring in the country, ranging from 4 to 5.
Of the total Quakes, two Richter scales had a size of 4.1, occurring on June 2nd in the provinces of Khorasan Razavi and Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari.
Among the states of the country, 21-year-old Isfahan was the highest number of earthquakes following Chaharmahar Bakhtiari and Khuhzestan in 13 and 10 earthquakes respectively.
During the same period, one earthquake struck Tehran. No earthquakes have been recorded in East Azabaijan, Alborz, Ilam, Zanjan, Hadan, QOM, Kazbin, Kordestan and Lorestan provinces.
According to the Earthquake Network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran, a total of 6,272 earthquakes have been recorded nationwide in past calendar years (March 2024 – March 2025).
From the registered earthquakes, 150 were over four on the Richter scale. At least five earthquakes of 4.5 or more have occurred monthly in the country.
The Iranian plateau is located in a highly seismically active region of the world and is known not only for its major catastrophic earthquakes, but also for its natural disasters, particularly earthquake-related disasters.
Iran has about 2% of global earthquakes, but more than 6% of global earthquake casualties in the 20th century have been reported from Iranian earthquakes.
