Tehran – A total of 137 earthquakes have been recorded nationwide, according to the seismological network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran Geophysics.
Statistically, there are 124 earthquakes with a size less than 3. A 12 earthquake, between 3 and 4 size. And one earthquake, the size between 4 and 5. It occurred domestically, the IRNA reported.
Of the Quakes total, there were four sizes on the Richter scale that occurred in Kangavar, Kermanshah province on April 21st.
Of the states of the country, 23-year-old Khorasan Razavi experienced the most earthquakes, followed by Fars in 15 Semnans and 12 earthquakes.
During the same period, no earthquakes were recorded in Aldabil, Alborz, Ilam, Zanjan, QOM, Kazbin, and Gilan provinces.
According to the Earthquake Network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran, a total of 6,272 earthquakes have been recorded nationwide in past calendar years (March 2024 – March 2025).
From the registered earthquakes, 150 were over four on the Richter scale. At least five earthquakes of 4.5 or more have occurred monthly in the country.
The Iranian plateau is located in a highly seismically active region of the world and is known not only for its major catastrophic earthquakes, but also for its natural disasters, particularly earthquake-related disasters.
Iran has about 2% of global earthquakes, but more than 6% of global earthquake casualties in the 20th century have been reported from Iranian earthquakes.
