TEHRAN – Over 6,000 people visited the historic Falak ol Aflak Fortress in Koramabad, the capital of Lorestan province, on Thursday.
June 5th – The public holidays in Iran mark a record day of one of the nation’s most iconic heritage.
According to Ata Hassanpur, chief of the state tourism department, the ancient times welcome unprecedented visitors in one day, highlighting the growing national interests on Iran’s cultural landmarks.
“This exceptional voter turnout reflects an increase in perception of historical and cultural significance among the public of Farakh ol Afrak,” Hasanpur said, adding that the site witnessed a surge in visitors during the Knowles (Iran’s New Year) public holidays earlier this year.
Falak ol Afrak, dating back to the Sassanid era, is a towering structure located on a hilltop in the heart of Khoramabad. The base, which is listed on Iran’s national heritage list under No. 883, is one of the most prominent architectural and historical monuments in western Iran.
The site is also part of a broader nomination document, including a series of prehistoric caves in the Koramabad Valley, currently considering the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
June 5th is a national holiday commemorating the 1963 uprising known as Iran’s 15 Khordad movement.
