TEHRAN – A total of 94 earthquakes were recorded nationwide in the week from September 20th to 26th, according to the seismological network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran.
Statistically, there are 83 earthquakes with a size less than 3. An 11 earthquake, between 3 and 4 sizes. According to the IRNA, no earthquakes of 4 to 5 or more have occurred in the country.
Of the total tremors, two Richter scales were 3.7. This happened on September 25th in the County Fars.
Of the states of the country, the 17-year-old Carman had the highest number of earthquakes, followed by 13 and 9 earthquakes in South Holasan and Isfahan, respectively.
During the same period, an earthquake struck Tehran. No earthquakes have been recorded in Commander Aadibil, Alborz, Ilam, Zanjan, Sistanbarchestan, Kazbin, Kordestan, Kelmansha, Kolestan, Gilan and Hadanan.
According to the seismological network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran, a total of 6,272 earthquakes have been recorded nationwide in past calendar years (March 2024 -March 2025).
From the registered earthquakes, 150 were over four on the Richter scale. At least five earthquakes of 4.5 or more have occurred monthly in the country.
The Iranian plateau is located in a highly seismically active region of the world and is known not only for its major catastrophic earthquakes, but also for its natural disasters, particularly earthquake-related disasters.
Iran has about 2% of global earthquakes, but more than 6% of global earthquake casualties in the 20th century have been reported from Iranian earthquakes.
