New Delhi denounced Islamabad for supporting a deadly attack on tourists in Pahargam last month, causing a fresh standoff among nuclear-armed neighbours.
“The launch was intended to ensure operational readiness for the military and verify key technical parameters, including advanced navigation systems and improved accuracy for missiles,” the military said in a statement, NDTV reported.
On Saturday, the military said it had tested missiles from the surface to the surface in a range of 450 kilometres.
I didn’t know where the tests were conducted.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif said he was pleased with the military’s “full preparation for national defense.”
“The successful training launch clearly shows that Pakistan’s defense is in a strong hand,” he said in a statement.
The missile training launch comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he gave the Indian troops “full operational freedom” and “full operational freedom” to respond to the April 22 attack in Pahargam, which killed 26 people.
Pakistan denied involvement and called for an independent investigation.
Last week, Islamabad warned of impending airstrikes from its neighbors, repeatedly making its commitment to power to any attacks by India.
