Upon his arrival, Shebaz Sharif was welcomed by Iranian Interior Minister Escandar Momeni at Tehran’s Merabad Airport.
According to the scheduled programme, the Pakistan Prime Minister will hold prominent consultations with senior Iranian officials on bilateral ties, recent regional and international issues, and mutual interest issues.
Earlier on Sunday, senior political aide to Iranian President Mehdi Sanaei said Pakistani Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif will meet with Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian on Monday.
In a post on the X account, Sanaei writes that Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian will receive Shebaz Sharif, the prime minister of neighboring Pakistan, who will arrive in Tehran to the head of a high-ranking political delegation later on Sunday.
There is a deep historical cultural ties between the two countries, with trade between Iran and Pakistan exceeding $3 billion in 2024, Peshshkian adviser added.
The two countries are in ongoing consultations to maintain stability in the region, Sanaei noted.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry announced on Friday that Pakistan Prime Minister Mohammed Shebaz Sharif will officially visit Iran’s Islamic Republic on Monday.
