Admiral Shalam Irani, commander of the Islamic Republic of Iranian Navy, arrived in Karachi on Saturday morning to participate in the “Aman-25” international maritime exercise.
Speaking about the importance of Iran-Pakistan’s naval cooperation, Iranian emphasized that Iran’s high level presence in this international exercise underscores the strategic importance of the relationship between Tehran and Islamabad. He said the main purpose of Iran’s participation is to enhance operational capabilities at sea and pave the way for future bilateral naval training.
He emphasized the development of Iranian naval units and special operations teams to the movement, and hoped that the interaction between Iran and Pakistan’s joint naval forces would set the stage for more bilateral exercises in the future.
He also thanked the expansion of naval cooperation in expanding the efforts of the Iranian Embassy and the Military Attache Office in Pakistan. Additionally, he announced plans to invite Pakistani navy to future exercises hosted by Iran.
Irani has visited Pakistan at the official invitation of the commander of the Pakistani navy to participate in the Aman 25 Navy Movement and the Aman dialogue.
The Iranian Navy is taking part in the ninth edition of Pakistan’s multinational naval movement called Aman 25, which began at Karachi Port on Friday.
The Pakistani Navy is holding maritime exercises with naval participation, along with ships, aircraft, special operational forces, Explosive Weapon Disposal (EOD) marine teams and observers from over 60 countries.
The event aims to strengthen maritime security and promote international cooperation in the face of regional and global challenges, according to organizers.
Combat ships, which are part of a delegation from the Iranian Navy, will also be present in the drills, which will be held from February 7th to 11th.
On the sidelines of the exercise, the Iranian military delegation will be taking part in the first Aman dialogue, focusing on maritime cooperation. They will also meet a variety of delegations, including Pakistani military officials.
Pakistan officially invited Iran to participate in the exercise during his recent visit to Islamabad by Prime Minister Mohammad Bagyeri.
