TEHRAN – Iran and Pakistan have reaffirmed their strong commitment to eliminate terrorism on both sides of the common border through strengthening military cooperation. The resolution was highlighted at a meeting between Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the chief of Iranian military co-staff, and Pakistani Army Secretary Asim Munier on Tuesday.
In his remarks, Major General Bagheri described Pakistan as a strategic partner, highlighting the importance of continuing coordination between the two countries’ troops to protect shared borders. He praised existing collaborations as effective and invaluable, and emphasized that such cooperation should be further strengthened to address security challenges more efficiently.
Reflecting these sentiments, the Munier s emphasized the need to deepen military ties in the fight against terrorism along the Iran-Pakistan border and boost joint efforts. He acknowledged the extensive experience of Iranian military in various security domains and expressed Pakistan’s determination to expand its defensive cooperation with Iran.
The Munir Original S visit to Iran is part of an extensive regional tour led by Pakistan Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif, beginning in Turkey and following Azerbaijan and Tajikistan. The tour aims to strengthen bilateral relations across the West and South Asia and to share security and economic issues.
This high-level conference followed Prime Minister Sharif himself debate with Iran’s top leadership, including leaders of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and President Masuud Pezeshkian. During these talks, both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening relationships and promoting regional stability.
A new focus on cooperative security measures comes amidst on continuing concerns about cross-border terrorist activities affecting both countries. By working closely, Iran and Pakistan aim to create a safer environment for their citizens and contribute to the peace of the wider region.
