Medical sources said at least three Palestinians were killed and several others were injured in an Israeli strike in Gaza city’s Sabra district on Monday.
According to Press TV, the local Palestinian outlet reported that journalist Islamic al-Khaumi was one of the victims.
This is when the ruins of a Gaza journalist were discovered weeks after the Israeli strike claimed her life.
Marwa Musallam was buried under a tiled rub after an Israeli airstrike in Gaza city in July. Her cries for help were unanswered as she lamented the pressure on Israel to let rescuers reach her.
Musalam’s body was found 45 days later.
Meanwhile, the Colombian Journalism Review (CJR) has called for suggestions from reporters, editors and rights experts to investigate innovative ways to protect Palestinian journalists in Gaza.
In a recently introduced feature, the CRJ advocates a brave and innovative strategy aimed at protecting ground reporters facing assassinations and smear campaigns due to degradation of legal and institutional protection measures.
The proposals included sanctions against Israeli officials, media strikes, power losses and sanctions against charges of war crimes in the International Criminal Court.
“The journalists in the western newsroom could attack. They could refuse to work until some substantial demand for policy changes at these agencies was met,” said Sharif Abdel Koudos of Drop Site News.
“What is this policy? It is probably the bottom or internal disclaimer of all articles citing Israeli authorities that Israel has killed far more journalists in Gaza since Israel began to maintain records, and therefore the truthfulness of any statement is questionable.”
As Israel continues to prohibit foreign journalists from accessing coastal territories, Palestinian reporters continue to be the exclusive source of exclusive reports from within conflict zones.
While performing its duties, the Islamic Cooperative Organization (OIC) Press Association has expressed deep concern over the ongoing assassination of Palestinian journalists by Israeli forces.
