The CEO of Iranian Airport and Air Navigation Company said on Saturday that airports across the country processed more than 40 million passengers per year until March 20th.
Mohammad Amirani said that in the past year, 0.359 million flights have been recorded at 64 Iranian airports, an 8% increase from the previous year.
Amilani said domestic passenger traffic at Iranian airport would increase by more than 5% per year to over 3,683 million in late March.
He added that international passenger traffic has reached over 3.19 million in past calendar years, an increase of 21% from March 2024.
The figures lie under the broad regime of US and European sanctions, where Iran’s aviation industry is still under the widespread regime of US and European sanctions.
Sanctions have prevented Iranian airlines from accessing brand new planes and parts, and have been removed from flights from European airports.
Iranian government figures say that Merabad Airport, the capital, was the busiest airport in the country from late March to late March, as it processed around 016 million flights with over 13.75 million passengers.
Over 8.42 million passengers used Shahid Hasheminejad Airport in a city in northeastern Mashhad province, making it the second busiest airport of the year in March.
