Peruvian authorities have launched criminal investigations against Israeli soldiers accused of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip from 2023 to 2024, according to the Hindrajab Foundation (HRF).
The investigation was launched following a complaint filed by prominent human rights attorney Julio Cesar Albiz Gonzalez. The complaint alleges that an individual whose name is not publicly known served as combat engineering soldiers and participated in “the systematic and systematic destruction of civilians in the Gaza Strip.”
Footage shared on social media shows soldiers celebrating civilian buildings as they explode.
The HRF, a Brussels-based NGO, focuses on taking legal action against Israeli soldiers committing rights violations, saying suspects could face charges such as “war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide conduct.”
It praised Lima’s “compliance with international humanitarian law and criminal law principles.” The principle of universal jurisdiction requires countries to prosecute serious crimes regardless of where they were committed or the nationality of the suspect.
