Speaking at a meeting for commanders and oversight of Iranian traffic police, President Pezeshkian emphasized the 24-hour efforts of police officers to protect the safety and honor of the people.
He characterized the role of police as one of the most challenging and important tasks in society, noting that officers are tirelessly working in urban, rural and border areas.
In his remarks, the president reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to implementing infrastructure reforms aimed at strengthening road safety and reducing accidents.
He notes that many countries enforce strict driving laws and if an individual drives recklessly, exceeds speed limits and causes the death or wound of another person, this behavior is classified as a deliberate and dangerous act and is not merely treated as something of a normal criminal.
To reduce car accidents, he highlighted the need for aggressive regulations aimed at preventing reckless drivers from putting the safety of others at risk.
The president said the casualties of 17,000 to 20,000 deaths per year from Iranian traffic accidents are unacceptable. He emphasized that thousands more injuries and disabilities will be put a huge strain on families and society.
Pezeshkian advocated an accurate program focusing on scientific and technical solutions to address traffic-related issues. He also emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of safe driving, arguing that adherence to traffic laws is ingrained in social values beyond mere textbooks.
Additionally, he emphasized the need to encourage legal drivers for careless drivers, harnessed modern technology as part of a comprehensive strategy to impose penalties on careless drivers, mitigate accidents and save lives.
