The tragic earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has led to the deaths and injuries of many citizens in its friendly and brotherhood, and has deeply saddened me and the people of Iran, the message read.
On behalf of the Iranian state, I express my sadness at this tragic event, praying for the mercy of God for the deceased and for the prompt recovery of the wounded, the President added.
He emphasizes the solidarity between Iranian people and the government with Afghanistan, and is ready to provide emergency situations and medical assistance. He expressed his hope that through local solidarity and cooperation, the affected areas can return to normalcy as soon as possible.
At least 600 people were killed and 1,500 injured after the earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan. A US geological survey says a magnitude 6 earthquake struck just before midnight local time in eastern Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan.
