TEHRAN – Iranian President Masudo Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to promoting strong ties with Iranian neighbors and emphasized the importance of good neighbourship as a cornerstone of the country’s foreign policy.
He highlighted Iran’s dedication to expanding partnerships with regional countries, longtime ally with deep cultural and historical ties with Iran, particularly those with regional ties.
At a meeting with Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister on Wednesday, President Rashid Meredov reiterated Iran’s enthusiasm to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including trade, energy and infrastructure.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has been trying to strengthen relations with its neighbors, including its friendly and brother states in Turkmenistan,” he said. “We welcome the opportunity to deepen collaboration in a variety of fields.”
The Iranian president also mentioned a recent telephone conversation with Turkmenistan’s national leader. Meanwhile, the two sides discussed strategies to accelerate the implementation of joint projects. “The necessary instructions have been issued to explore new paths for collaboration with Turkmenistan and address existing challenges that could hinder progress,” Pezeshkian added.
An important focus of the discussion was the upcoming summit of the Caspian Sea coastal province, scheduled to be held in Tehran. Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s commitment to promoting regional stability and cooperation. “Iran is looking to expand its relationship with the Caspian Sea based on peace, friendship and good neighbors. This approach will be central to discussions at upcoming summits and practical use to strengthen regional partnerships. “We will work towards a solution that is more relevant,” he said.
Foreign Minister Meredov praised Iran’s progress in trivia relations, giving a warm greeting from the Turkmenistan leader, calling for further expansion of economic ties. He pointed to existing agreements and joint projects between Iran and Turkmen companies, particularly in transportation and energy, as key areas of growth.
Meldov also noted the importance of the Iran-Turmenistan Joint Economic Cooperation Committee and expressed his hope that the next meeting will lead to further economic progress. “The relationship between our two countries is extremely important to the Turkmenistan government,” he said. “We want to strengthen cooperation in all areas.”
The Minister invited President Pezeshkian to participate in the upcoming International Peace and Trust Conference held in Turkmenistan. In return, he announced that Turkmenistan would send a high-ranking delegation to attend the Caspian Sea summit in Tehran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi also held a meeting with Turkmenistan counterpart Rashid Meredov in Tehran on Wednesday.
At a subsequent joint press conference, Aragut said “Iran and Tourmanistan are very deep,” adding that Iran’s Islamic Republic was one of the first countries to recognize Turkmenistan’s independence.
Meredov also emphasized the importance of local safety and environmental cooperation. “Afghanistan is our neighbor and we discussed common concerns about its stability,” he said. “We also investigated issues related to the Caspian Sea and water resource management. Iran and Turkmenistan must work together to solve the water challenges. We agreed to continue cooperation in the region .”
Meredov reiterated his gratitude for Iran’s diplomatic initiative, particularly Turkmenistan’s support for its designation as the year of peace and trust in 2025. “We appreciate our continued support of our proposal and our role in maintaining regional stability,” he said.
Turkmen officials also emphasized the importance of expanding cultural and scientific cooperation, and recognized the shared legacy of the rich between the two countries. “Our story today reflected a spirit of friendship and brotherhood,” Meredov pointed out. “We hope that such a meeting will continue to strengthen our relationship in the coming years.”
