Tehran – Iranian President Maud Pezeshkian reaffirms Iran’s unwavering commitment to international law, emphasizing that Tehran will not succumb or tolerate its legal rights, particularly in the context of its peaceful nuclear programme.
In a call with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Saturday, President Pezeshkian emphasized the transparency of Iran’s nuclear activities and repeated his long-standing cooperation with the Islamic Republic’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“There’s nothing to hide in Iran. Our nuclear program is always peaceful and fully overseen by the IAEA,” he said. “However, we are determinedly rejecting any attempts to put pressure or strip Iran’s state from its legal qualifications.”
He further emphasized that Iran’s nuclear doctrine is rooted in a binding religious order (fatwa) issued by the leaders of the Islamic Revolution.
Despite years of cooperation and testing, Pezeshkian regrets that Iran’s nuclear program remains a target for baseless accusations, misinformation campaigns and politically motivated media stories.
The Iranian president also tackled the recent Israeli-US military operations, and said that Israel’s 12-day attacks (published by Washington) was launched while Iran was engaged in indirect nuclear negotiations with the United States.
“The Israeli regime’s invasion constituted a serious violation of international law and occurred while diplomatic efforts were still ongoing,” Pezeschkian said. “Following that, the US has worked fully with Israel to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Pezeshkian criticised the IAEA’s silence over the strike on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, saying that Iranian people hoped the government would support its mission and condemn the attack in line with the governing law.
On June 13, Israeli forces launched an unprovoked attack on Iran, killing more than 1,100 people, including top military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians. On June 22, the US escalated the conflict by bombing three important nuclear sites, Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. This states that Tehran violated the UN Charter and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
In response to the coordinated strike, Iranian troops have launched a precision reporting operation targeting the occupied territory, the largest US base in West Asia, and the Israeli military site at Aldeid Air Base in Qatar.
The operation reached its peak on June 24, when Iran successfully halted its military escalation and effectively forced a pause of hostility.
“In spite of the severity of the attack, Iran responded with calculated restraints and strength according to his right to self-defense,” Pezeschkian said. “We have never sought war or regional instability. Our track record proves that Iran has always played a key role in promoting regional peace and security.”
Turning to bilateral relations, President Pezeshkian emphasized the historic and friendly relations between Iran and Armenia. He reiterated Tehran’s commitment to promoting constructive engagement with all his neighbours based on mutual respect and recognition of territorial sovereignty.
On his part, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan condemned the Israeli regime’s attacks on Iran and emphasized his strong interest in deepening Yerevan’s ties with Tehran. He extended his official invitation to President Pezeschkian and explored ways to visit Armenia to increase bilateral cooperation.
