The Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) on Thursday condemned Israeli attacks against Syria, urging the international community to stop “blatant violations” to take “urgent and decisive actions.”
In a statement, PGCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi condemned Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday night, targeting Syrian military sites, vehicles and ammunition depots, the Anadolu Agency reported.
After the attack, Israeli Channel 14 reported that Israeli ground forces crossed the buffer zone in southern Syria and destroyed the weapons depot in parallel with the aviation strike.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently announced that Israeli forces will remain in the buffer zone “for a foreseeable future” and turn South Syria into a “unarmed zone.”
Albadiwi vehemently condemned the attack, calling it a “serious violation of international agreements and laws that threaten the security and stability of the region.”
He argued that Israel’s continued aggression would undermine peace efforts and fuel instability.
He highlighted the need for urgent and critical global interventions to curb these violations.
The PGCC statement also referenced the 46th extraordinary ministerial meeting. This condemned repeated Israeli attacks on Syria, including a direct violation of Syrian sovereignty and the occupation of the buffer zone, the 1974 liberation agreement.
Albadiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s stance on Israel’s complete withdrawal from all occupied Syrian territory and compliance with related UN Security Council resolutions.
After the collapse of Bashar al-Assad regime in December, Israel expanded its occupation of Golan Heights in Syria by seizing a demilitarized buffer zone that violated the 1974 liberation agreement with Syria. It also intensified airstrikes targeting Syrian military positions across the country.
Israel’s recent military advances in Golan Heights, which have been occupied since 1967, have elicited condemnation from the United Nations and several Arab countries.
