The Iranian commander visited St. Petersburg, Russia on Monday, where he reported he would be attending a meeting of naval commanders in the Caspia Sea.
“The five coastal provinces of the Caspian Sea have established very good relationships, and this year we have once again reviewed new developments and actually started implementing them.”
“The Caspian Sea is not a place where there is room for others to pilot,” he said.
The Iranian commander said all Caspian Sea provinces share the purpose of maintaining the maritime security of the region.
Irani said security in the Caspian Sea can be achieved through the participation of coastal countries by ensuring a dynamic local economy.
He said the St. Petersburg Conference conveys an important message that the Caspian Sea should make their own decisions.
During a trip to St. Petersburg, Iranian commanders will meet with Russian naval chiefs, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
The Caspian Navy Chiefs’ Conference focuses on maritime security, joint military exercises and smuggling, and is built on the 2018 Aktau Treaty, which defined territorial and resource rights.
Essential to its $3 trillion energy reserves, Caspian remains a strategic hub as Iran and Russia expand their military partnerships.
In July, Iran and Russian navy staged a three-day major joint search and rescue drill in the Caspian Sea.
Casarex 2025 was held under the banner “Together for the Safe and Secure Caspian Sea.”
