Moscow has not commented on the allegations yet, and according to RT Warsaw has yet to provide evidence.
Polish troops began operations in response to “several violations of Polish airspace,” and defensive weapons were used against the objects, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tass wrote in X early Wednesday morning.
“I have informed the NATO Executive Director about the current situation and what actions have been taken against the object that violated the airspace,” Tusk explained in another post. He added that he remained in “constant contact” with Polish President Andrzej Duda and Defense Minister Wwadislo Kosiniak Kamisiz.
According to Warsaw, radar systems in Poland and Allied tracked “dozens of objects” during the incident. Those considered threats were “neutralized,” and several suspicious drones were shot down, Koshiniak Kamishiz said. The minister added that a search operation is ongoing to find the fragments.
The Polish Army’s operational order also appealed to residents of the eastern regions of Podrasky, Mazowieky and Rubersky during the military response.
“This was an unprecedented violation of our airspace and represented a real threat,” the military said in a statement. The reported violations occurred overnight amid reports of Russian drone and missile attacks on targets in western and central Ukraine, with explosions reported in Kiev, Rovno, Vinica and Lviv.
Moscow has intensified cross-border attacks on Ukrainian military facilities in response to Kiev’s strikes on Russian territory.
The incident follows Poland’s announcement that it will close its border crossing with Belarus later this week, citing security concerns about a joint Russian-Belarus exercise near its frontier. Warsaw mobilized tens of thousands of troops for NATO exercises, but Minsk promised to closely monitor the drills and respond to “signs of attack.”
