Later, Putin and Japarov laid flowers at the Eternal Flame Monument in Bishkek’s Victory Square, Interfax news agency reported on Tuesday.
The heads of state followed the guard of honor and ascended the red carpet steps to the Eternal Flame, adjusting the ribbons of the wreath as a sign of respect to the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The ceremony ended with a salute from the honor guard.
President Putin will spend three days in Bishkek, including two days as a state guest. Putin and Japarov are scheduled to head to the Ala Archa residence tonight for an informal one-on-one meeting on Tuesday night.
President Putin is scheduled to hold Russia-Kyrgyzstan talks and an official reception on Wednesday. He will also meet with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and attend an informal dinner with the leaders of member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
President Putin will speak at a meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council and summarize the results of the visit in a press conference for Russian media on Thursday.
