White House press secretary Caroline Levitt said President Trump remained optimistic that a peace deal could be reached with Ukraine and that differences had narrowed.
But he told Fox News’ “The Story” show that Zelensky and Trump are not scheduled to meet this week to finalize the plan.
There are only “some differences” between the United States and Ukraine, he said.
Sources earlier told Reuters that Zelenskyy may visit the United States as early as this week to discuss sensitive aspects of the plan to end the war in Ukraine with Trump.
Zelenskiy said the peace plan currently being discussed with the United States and Europe contains the “right” points, but that he would discuss sensitive issues with Trump.
“At this point, after Geneva (talks), we have fewer points, we no longer have 28 points. A lot of the right elements have been put into this framework,” Zelenskiy said in his nightly video address.
“Our team has already reported on the new draft measures today, and this is exactly the right approach. We will discuss the sensitive issues, the most sensitive points, with President Trump.”
