President Donald Trump flew to occupied Palestine on Sunday as world leaders met to discuss the next steps toward peace and said the war in Gaza would end and the Middle East would return to “normalcy” as he awaited the release of Israeli prisoners from Hamas, the BBC reported.
“The war is over. You know it,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he began his flight from Washington, D.C., to occupied Palestine.
Asked about the outlook for the region, President Trump said, “I think things will return to normal.”
A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took place in Gaza on Sunday, marking its third day ahead of the release of Israeli and Palestinian prisoners and President Trump’s scheduled speech to the Israeli government’s parliament.
Thousands of Palestinians continued to move north toward Gaza City, which has been the epicenter of Israeli attacks for the past two months, hoping a ceasefire would bring an end to the war.
