In an article published by Haaretz, Israeli journalist Nehemiah Strassler said, “Prime Minister Netanyahu has caused strategic losses to Israel in (all) diplomatic and military areas,” as reported by Press TV.
Israel’s former status as the “darling” of the US government has now gone to Saudi Arabia, and its global standing is at an unprecedented low, he added.
Mr. Strassler said Netanyahu’s most serious failure was on the Iranian front, where Iran’s military and political influence is stronger than ever.
Immediately after the 12-day war, Prime Minister Netanyahu claimed that Israel had eliminated two existential threats: the nuclear threat and the threat of 20,000 ballistic missiles.
“(Israel) has not withdrawn anything. Iran has not surrendered. Iran is not willing to accept any oversight of its nuclear program and is building new ballistic missiles at a (huge) pace. Iran recently declared that it would launch 2,000 missiles a day in the next conflict with Israel,” he added.
Prime Minister Netanyahu’s second major failure occurred with the Gaza massacre. At least 71,000 people have been killed and 172,000 injured since October 7, 2023, the majority of them women and children.
Strassler said the administration had spent vast military and political resources trying to defeat the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, but it had failed.
Hamas continues to control Gaza, maintains 20,000 fighters in preparation for a showdown with Israel, and remains deeply popular among Palestinians.
Hezbollah has also not surrendered and refuses to give up its weapons. “We’re rebuilding infrastructure, recruiting fighters, building chains of command, and gathering weapons,” Strassler added.
Diplomatically and militarily, Israel is in a dire situation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not been able to neutralize any of his government’s opponents and said they remain formidable.
“Total victory? The most despicable man in the history of the Jewish people has inflicted a strategic defeat on (Israel),” Strassler concluded, according to Press TV.
