Hundreds of residents protested against the massive detention of illegal immigrants on New York streets, reported by a TASS correspondent.
People with different flags gathered outside the court building in Manhattan. They are also carrying banners saying, “Stop deportation,” “We demand freedom, not deportation,” and “America was created by immigrants.”
Police reinforcements are being deployed in the area. Law enforcement will not intervene because meetings are peaceful.
Dozens of people were taken into custody during a similar protest on Monday. The crowd, protesting the US administration’s migration policy, occupying the lobby of a skyscraper at Trump Tower and refused to leave.
The massive undocumented detention of immigrants began in Los Angeles on June 6th. By the evening of June 7, at least 44 people had already been detained on suspicion of immigration violations. The civilians took them onto the streets in response to the attack. The CBS report shows that protesters tried to interfere with police activities, block roads and throw rocks and firecrackers at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers. Los Angeles police detained at least 56 people last weekend.
Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard forces in Los Angeles without consulting California Gov. Gavin Newsom. According to the CNN TV channel, approximately 1,700 National Guard personnel have been deployed in Los Angeles. The US Department of Defense sent around 700 Marines to deal with their anxiety.
