On Brazil’s Independence Day, thousands of demonstrators were on the streets of major Brazilian cities, including Sao Paulo, who chant “Trump from Palestinian Lands and Latin America” on September 7th. Usually, patriotic celebrations and military parade days have been transformed into platforms for international solidarity.
Protesters waving the Palestinian flag to demonstrate support for the Palestinian people and denounced the Israeli occupation. At the same time, they expressed strong opposition to our influence in Latin America, targeting President Donald Trump in particular.
The protesters called for Brazil to cut off all military and economic ties with Israel, urging President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva’s government to adopt a more rigid anti-Zionist position. Their slogans reflect both domestic dissatisfaction with far-right politics and global solidarity with anti-colonial struggles.
Although police remained important, the report described the rally as being almost peaceful.
Brazil’s Independence Day, commemorating the liberation of Portugal in 1822, is traditionally a symbol of national unity. However, this year has now come to the stage where we reject both Israeli occupation and US imperialism, expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
