Russian President Vladimir Putin unilaterally declared a three-day ceasefire in Ukraine starting May 8, in conjunction with the commemoration of World War II victory day, the Kremlin said on Monday, according to CNN.
The Kremlin said the decision was based on “humanitarian considerations” and that “all military actions” would be suspended from midnight on May 8 until May 11.
An advisor to Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky’s office replied, “A ceasefire must have to be unconditional. Everything else is Putin’s tactical game.”
Moscow previously rejected the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in a conflict agreed by Ukraine.
Putin also unilaterally declared a 30-hour truce around Easter. This was met with skepticism by Kiev, but agreed.
Ukrainian forces later accused Russia of violating its ceasefire with over 2,900 attacks along the vast frontline. Moscow also accused Ukraine of violating the ceasefire.
