In a statement on May 11th, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed an accurate and direct consultation between Moscow and Kiev, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in response to TASS questions about possible participation in European countries in consultations.
“You know, on May 11, the President advocated an initiative to hold in-person talks between Russia and Ukraine without prerequisites. We are talking specifically about the in-person talks,” the spokesman pointed out.
On May 11, Vladimir Putin spoke with a Kremlin reporter, suggesting that Kiev authorities proposed to resume in 2022 without the assumption of in-person talks and start dialogue in Istanbul on May 15. According to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, talks were suspended between Moscow and Kiev in the spring of 2022, but will resume negotiations that were suspended at the proposal of then Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
