Austrian Qatar Ambassador Jassim Yakov al-Hamadi issued a statement on the issue during a conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency held in Vienna earlier this week.
Israel has never publicly admitted its possession of nuclear weapons, but according to an assessment by the Stockholm Institute of International Peace in June 2024, there is widespread belief that there are around 90 people in Arsenal.
“Hamadi highlighted the need for the international community and its institutions to support their commitment under the UN Security Council, the United Nations General Assembly, the IAEA and the 1995 NPT resolutions.
The Qatar Ambassador also called for “intensifying international efforts” to lead Israel to a treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons (NPT) as a nuclear-free state,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, “all Middle Eastern countries except Israel are parties to the NPT and have effective safeguard agreements with the institutions.”
