Tehran – From the current water year (23 September 2024) to July 12, nationwide rainfall reached 136.3 mm, a 39.7% decrease from the long-term average of 226.1 mm recorded over the same period, according to weather organizations.
From July 6th to 12th, approximately 1.6 mm of rainfall was recorded across the country, showing a 104.4% increase compared to the long-term figure of 0.8 mm, Isna reports.
From the beginning of summer (June 22nd) to July 12th, the average rainfall has reached 2 mm. Compared to the long-term figures of 2.5 mm, the country has 20.3% less rain.
Rainfall data shows that all states have less precipitation than long-term averages. Hormozgan and Sistan-Baluchestan have the lowest rainfall, with current water years raining 73.3% and 71.5% more than normal.
Tehran is one of the provinces facing a significant decline in precipitation. The long-term average rainfall in Tehran is 264.9 mm, but it received 136.9 mm of rain during the current water year. This indicates a 48.3% decrease.
Rain over 250mm in the previous water
The previous water years (September 22, 2023 – September 22, 2024) ended with a precipitation of 252.7 mm.
Although it was bothering me that there was low precipitation at the beginning of the previous water year, the amount of precipitation improved over time.
Due to years of drought, increased rainfall does not compensate for the country’s water shortage, and some states are suffering from water shortages, the IRNA reported.
A total of 10 states have less rainfall than normal.
According to the latest report, the total recorded rainfall for the previous water fiscal year (ends September 23) was 252.7 mm. This means an increase of 19% compared to the 212.9 mm rain received in September 2022 – September 2023.
It shows a 2% increase compared to the long-term figure of 248.7 mm.
