Tehran – From the current water year (September 23, 2024) to June 2, nationwide rainfall reached 131.5 mm, down 40.4% from the long-term average of 220.7 mm recorded at the same time, according to weather organizations.
From May 27 to June 2, approximately 0.1 mm of rainfall was recorded across the country, showing a 90.2% decrease compared to the long-term figure of 1.4 mm, Isna reports.
Also, from May 22nd to June 2nd, precipitation amounted to approximately 0.7 mm. Compared to the long-term amount of 3 mm, the country has reduced rainfall by 78.5%.
According to weather organizations, rainfall in all states is lower than the long-term average. Hormozgan has the lowest rainfall, with 75.7% less rainfall than usual during the current water year.
Tehran is one of the provinces facing a significant decline in precipitation. The long-term average rainfall in Tehran is 255.5 mm, but current water has resulted in 130.9 mm of rain. This indicates a 48.8% decrease.
Rain over 250mm in the previous water
The previous water years (September 22, 2023 – September 22, 2024) ended with a precipitation of 252.7 mm.
I was concerned that the precipitation at the beginning of the previous water year was low, but the precipitation improved over time.
Due to years of drought, some states are suffering from water shortages, as increased rainfall did not compensate for the country’s water shortages, the IRNA reported.
A total of 10 states have less rainfall than normal.
According to the latest report, the total recorded rainfall for the previous water fiscal year (ends September 23) was 252.7 mm. This means an increase of 19% compared to the 212.9 mm rain received in September 2022 – September 2023.
It shows a 2% increase compared to the long-term figure of 248.7 mm.
