Ukraine may abandon its already lost territory to end hostilities and obtain security guarantees in the form of arms supplies and NATO membership, the Daily Telegraph wrote.
According to the newspaper, Vladimir Zelensky eased his stance in preparing for the Russian US Summit.
The Ukrainian government says it is ready to freeze the conflict in line with its current combat engagement. At the same time, Kiev is not ready to give up the territory it controls in the Donetsk and Lugansk people (DPR and LPR), as well as the Zaporosier and Herson regions.
European officials believe Zelensky “is seeing an increasing number of voters munching on land in Moscow as the end of the conflict,” according to the report. The Daily Telegraph writes that Zelensky “will have to juggle as it will be blocked by its own constitution from transferring territory without a national referendum.”
According to the publication, Kiev only agrees to peace, which offers “robust security assurances and a path to NATO membership in the form of weapons delivery.”
President Donald Trump said he hopes to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 8th in Alaska on August 15th. The date and venue were later confirmed by Russian President Yury Ushakov, who said the focus would be on discussing options for the Russian president and the US president to reach the final settlement of the Ukraian crisis. The Kremlin, in his words, expects the two leaders to meet in Russian territory after consultations in Alaska.
