Local government official Hidayat Brady was killed and his home was burned in attacks on Sorab in the Balochistan area, local police chief Hafees Ulla reported, ABC.
He said Brady is a “martialist” while trying to protect the women and children trapped inside a burning house during the attack.
Ula said several rebels were killed in a shootout with police.
The baroque Liberation Army, or the BLA, claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, Bla said the fighters control the main government buildings in Sorab.
Ula dismissed the claim, saying that the rebels fled when security forces responded to the attack. He said the attackers attacked Brady’s house and also set fire to several residences of government officials. Four civilians were injured.
Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif condemned the attack, saying the attackers targeted civilians, including women and children.
