US representative Locanna is one of the newest lawmakers seeking recognition of the Palestinian state, the Porth, whom he firmly advocated during the weekend’s Town Hall.
On Saturday, Silicon Valley’s leading progressive councillor held the city hall at Santa Clara University. There he spoke in an auditorium packed with members who expressed growing concern over Israel’s support of the Gaza War.
“This is when the US officially recognizes the Palestinian state: to follow the UK, to follow Canada, to follow the 147 other countries,” he said, clapping loudly.
“We recognize the Palestinian state and believe that it requires Palestinian leaders to comply with the integration of the state and its government.
The crowd was made up primarily of seniors, but lawmakers declared that he represents a new generation that would not tolerate Netanyahu, who violated human rights.
“There’s a new generation in this country that doesn’t intend to see you violate human rights,” he said. He added that the Israeli aid blockade is causing artificial hunger, calling on Israel to allow food to Gaza, and saying it’s time to end the US, which gives Israel a “blank check.”
He also called for a “leak” to sign a letter by lawmakers supporting the Palestinian state.
According to the Hill report, signers of the letter (originally reported by Jewish insiders) include Texas representatives Greg Casal, Veronica Escobar, Lloyd Dogget, Al Green, Mark Pokan of Wisconsin, Jared Huffman of California, Bonnie Watson Coleman of New Jersey, and Pramila Jayapal of Florida.
“I didn’t think this was controversial and wanted to be caught up in the letter to other members of the Congress, so they leaked my letter and the publication said, “Kanna will face a big push-up in his own district. Here, my efforts can be how many people have to acknowledge the Palestinian state.”
“I know my district and I’m proud to represent it,” he added, followed by a loud and clapping moment. A progressive lawmaker sparked rumors of the president’s run after a recent visit to South Carolina, where he drew a massive crowd.
Last month he spoke about what he described by Israel as a massive hunger for Palestinians in Gaza.
“According to the World Health Organization, there is a massive Palestinian hunger in Gaza. More than 900,000 children face the possibility of starvation. The children then passed away this week.
He went on to call the US “conspiracy” to support Netanyahu, noting reports of more than 1,000 Palestinians killed while trying to gather aid from the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Fund.
Like Vatican City, Palestinian authorities now hold observer status at the United Nations. To make Palestine a full member, they would call for the support of the United Nations Security Council, where the United States has a veto power.
