The Independent reported that a protest was held at the Citywest Hotel on Tuesday night and a Garda vehicle was also set on fire.
It is the second night in a row that large crowds have gathered outside the hotel, which is used as a state accommodation facility for people seeking international protection.
Monday night’s demonstration ended without any major incidents.
But on Tuesday night, police were attacked with fireworks, stones and other missiles.
The rally outside the hotel followed a sexual assault near the hotel early Monday morning.
Members of the Garda security force were called to action.
Protesters held Irish flags and chanted chants. Large crowds remained in the area after 9pm, with security personnel carrying shields and on horseback pushing demonstrators back.
Some members of the crowd threw stones and other missiles at gardaí.
A line of gardaí was blocking protesters from getting to the hotel. Many of those involved in the disturbance had their faces covered.
Garda helicopters were hovering overhead and water cannons were deployed at the scene.
