US Secretary of State Tehran Marco Rubio began his first visit to West Asia over the weekend amid global outrage over President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal for the Gaza Strip.
American diplomats met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem (AL-QUDS) on Sunday to document the early stages of their regional tour, including a visit to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Rubio is calling for Trump’s widely condemned plan to take control of the Gaza Strip and transfer the territory’s 2.3 million population to other countries.
“The President was also very bold about his views on what the future of Gaza should look like. He was bold and frankly, to outline courage and vision, rather than the tired ideas of the past. It was courageous and visionary. It may have been shocking many people and surprised, but what I can’t keep going is that we were caught in the exact same place over and over again. It’s the same cycle,” Rubio said at a meeting with Netanyahu.
Trump came up with the idea at a joint press conference with the Israeli Prime Minister visiting at the Oval office on February 4th, saying, “The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will work with it.”
The Londoners marched to the US embassy in the UK capital to condemn Trump’s controversial proposal to the Gaza Stripter, and the US president also said he was “committed to buying and owning Gaza.” He said.
He doubled his proposal in a meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan at the White House on Tuesday. “We’re going to take it, he told the journalists.
Trump also responded with a faint miserable attitude when asked whether he would consider purchasing Gaza as part of his acquisition plan.
“We’re not going to buy. There’s nothing to buy. There’s Gaza. There’s no reason to buy. It’s Gaza. It’s a war-torn area.”
Trump emphasizes that Palestinians in Gaza should leave their territory, and experts are the equivalent of ethnic cleansing.
According to the US President, the proposal aims to transform coastal areas into “Middle Eastern Riviera.”
The former real estate mogul has pressured the regional countries, particularly Jordan and Egypt, to accept forced removal. Both Cairo and Amman have rejected the proposal.
Other regional countries, including Saudi Arabia and Washington’s western allies, have criticised Trump’s proposal.
The protests have also emerged around the world in opposition to this action.
On Saturday, pro-Palestinian protesters marched through central London, denounced Trump’s proposal.
Waving the Palestinian flag and carrying placards with the words “Hands Off Gaza” on it, protesters marched to the US embassy in Nine Elm, southwest London.
Protesters showed signs that “stalking Trump” and “Canada said it’s not your 51st state. Gaza isn’t your 52nd.”
Similar protests took place in several cities across the United States.
Protesters from Turkish cities in Ankara and Istanbul also held rallies to express responsibilities against the US president’s plans. Some other cities around the world saw similar protests.
