“Sometimes, difficult periods occur in relations between the two countries, and now it’s one such period,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a briefing at a press conference in Moscow.
“We hope this period passes,” Peskov said, “cooperation between the two countries will have mutual benefits.”
Last month, Azerbaijan said it had cancelled planned cultural events in Russia after a civilian died during a police attack in the city of Yekaterinberg, Russia, and that a decision was made in response to “target and extrajudicial killings and acts of violence against Azerbaijan based on ethnicity.”
Peskov said that Moscow’s investigation continued to follow the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (Azar) plane in Kazakhstan last December, resulting in 38 passengers being boarded.
He said that if they decide to file a lawsuit against Moscow on matters in the international court, it is Baku’s right and that Russia will “wait an official verdict.”
