According to the Anadoru Agency, ratification of the agreement was announced in a statement from the Council of the Russian Federation, following the prevailing meeting of the Senate of Moscow.
The 20-year contract, concluded with the possibility of automatic expansion over the next five years, aims to deepen and expand cooperation between Russia and Iran across a wide range of regions, according to the statement.
“Accordingly, Russia and Iran are seeking to deepen and expand relations in all areas of mutual interest, strengthen cooperation in the areas of security and defense, and closely coordinate activities at regional and global levels,” he added.
The statement also said the deal covers regions that include further cooperation in sectors such as arms management, the fight against international terrorism, and trade, banking, transportation, energy and peaceful nuclear energy.
Congress president Valentina Matvienko said she had instructed the authorities to oversee the process of Iranian ratification of the transaction.
“In principle, of course, you would prefer to synchronize this process, but due to the nature of Iran’s parliamentary procedures, this will take more time,” Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko was quoted as saying by the state communications agency TASS during the session.
“However, at every level during negotiations we had, through the ministries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we declared that Iranians are ready to promote the parliamentary process,” he added.
On January 17th, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian signed a 20-year comprehensive strategic partnership agreement in Moscow.
The state House of Representatives, Russia’s parliamentary House, ratified the contract on April 8th.
