Peskov told a press conference in Moscow that Russia remains open to a political and diplomatic solution, calling this path “desirable,” Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
But he stressed that the terms of peace depend on achieving the goals Russia announced in February 2022 at the start of what it called a “special military operation.” Russia called for the “demilitarization” and “denazification” of Ukraine.
Peskov insisted that the stalled negotiations were “not Russia’s fault” and blamed European countries for making Kiev believe a military victory was possible.
He said that instead of facilitating talks, Western countries were “persisting” on Ukraine.
The spokesperson said the situation on the front is “dynamic” and indicates that Ukraine’s battlefield position continues to decline.
He added that despite domestic pressure, the number of Ukrainians supporting peace “on Russian terms” is likely to increase over time.
