Russia has issued warnings against the US saying military attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities will have “devastating” effects, India reported Tuesday.
This comes after US President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Iran unless an agreement with Washington about its nuclear activities.
In an interview with the International Affairs Journal, Russian Deputy Minister Sergei Ryabkov raised concerns over the issue. He emphasized that the threat and ultimatum would raise tensions.
“The threat has actually been heard, and ultimatums have been heard,” Lyabav said.
“We consider such methods to be inappropriate, we blame them, and we see them as a way (the US) to impose their own will on the part of Iran,” he added.
In his latest comments, Trump threatened that the country would be disastrously affected unless Iran agrees to Washington in its nuclear program.
Speaking to NBC News, he said, “If they don’t make a deal, there’s going to be bombing. They’ll bomb things they’ve never seen before.”
The announcement comes after Trump withdraws the US from Iran’s nuclear deal. The Iranian nuclear agreement restricted Iran’s nuclear program in return for sanctions relief.
Iran claims its nuclear energy programme is peaceful and not intended to build nuclear weapons.
However, Ryabkov believes Trump’s recent statement only made the situation more complicated. “This outcome can be devastating for the entire region, especially when strikes are on nuclear infrastructure,” he warned.
Lyabkov urged efforts to be made to find a peaceful solution.
“There’s still time and ‘trains have not left’ but we need to double our efforts to reach a reasonable agreement. Russia is ready to provide good service to Washington, Tehran and anyone interested in this,” he added.
