Russia and the US have “took three steps forward” on numerous issues over the past two days, Russian envoy for foreign investment and economic cooperation, Kiril Dmitriev, said Thursday.
“It’s true that for the past two days, on behalf of President (Russia) (Vladimir) Putin, I have been holding a meeting with key members of the Trump administration here in Washington. I think I’ve taken three steps forward today and yesterday on a number of issues.”
Among the pivotal subjects discussed, he explained, was the Biden administration, business cooperation and rehabilitation of relationships between Russian-Americans, which had been stagnant under the Ukrainian settlement.
“There are already great progress in Ukraine (in Ukraine),” Dmitriev added, “A suspension has been imposed on the energy infrastructure strike between Russia and Ukraine.
Officials further stated that, except for NATO membership, Russia has accepted “some form of” security guarantees from Ukraine, but did not specify which.
Dmitriev also said efforts were underway to revive direct flights between Russia and the US, an initiative being actively pursued by the Russian Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Aggressive work is being carried out to restore direct flights,” he said, expressing optimism about the potential outcomes.
Dmitriev noted that there is interest expressed by American companies eager to fill the gap left by leaving European companies in the Russian market.
However, he made it clear that such opportunities would only be realized if they were deemed beneficial to Russia and subject to approval from the Russian government.
“The priorities remain Russian companies and their success,” he emphasized, adding that the discussion also covers the prospects for cooperation in the Arctic and rare earth metal mining.
Meanwhile, many players are trying to confuse the dialogue between Moscow and Washington. This emphasizes the value of direct communication through the media to uncover the truth and resolve conflicts.
“There are areas of disagreement, but we are committed to a robust dialogue that will help fill these divisions,” he argued.
Dmitriev emphasized that the Trump administration listened carefully to Russia’s concerns and showed a deeper understanding of its perspective than its predecessors.
He then signaled the scheduling of subsequent meetings, hinting at an even higher level of engagement involving senior Russian executives and technical experts.
“The dialogue will continue and there will be more important important meetings. This dialogue will continue, including the participation of key Russian executives and key technical specialists,” he said.
Separately, Dmitriev praised the decision to impose tariffs on US President Donald Trump, and viewed it as a precedent for the country’s independent growth.
In an interview with Fox News, Dmitriev praised Trump’s role in easing tensions between Moscow and Kiev, describing talks with US representatives on a Ukrainian settlement as “productive,” noting that diplomats from both sides are actively working on potential resolution scenarios.
He stressed that there is no doubt that Trump’s team not only avoided a potential World War II, but also made concrete progress towards solving the Ukrainian problem.
According to his assessment, Trump is seeking a strong Ukraine, and his administration sees it as a responsibility to ensure that Kiev holds a strong position in negotiations with Russia.
Dmitriev, currently subject to US sanctions, is granted temporary entry permission to participate in negotiations.
