Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally greeted Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Indian Air Force Base Palam, a Sputnik correspondent reported on Thursday.
According to Sputnik, President Putin is scheduled to work in New Delhi from December 4-5.
A welcome ceremony was held at the airport. Prime Minister Modi met President Putin at the plane landing.
A red carpet was laid out in front of the gangway of President Putin’s plane, and a guard of honor lined up along it. The Russian leader was greeted by Indian dancers who performed a traditional welcome dance.
President Putin and Prime Minister Modi then headed for informal talks in the same car. According to a report by a Sputnik correspondent, President Vladimir Putin and Mr. Narendra Modi struck up a conversation in Mr. Modi’s car.
Commenting on Putin’s visit to New Delhi, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia and India share a common vision for the future of the planet.
Peskov said India is Russia’s main partner and relations between Moscow and New Delhi are developing and multifaceted, adding that Russia and India cooperate in the most sensitive areas, such as sharing technology.
